French Dip Crescents
I love to have friends over for dinner but hate to be hidden away in the kitchen, so I’m always on the lookout for quick, easy recipes that allow me to spend more time entertaining than cooking.
I came across this lovely recipe for French Dip Crescents from Plain Chicken, and knew I had found a keeper. It was one of those, “DUH! Why didn’t I think of this myself?!” moments.

French Dip Crescents
1/2 pound deli roast beef, thinly sliced
4 slices provolone cheese
4 tsp horseradish sauce or Ranch dressing
1 can refrigerated crescent rolls
1 packet Au Jus Gravy mix
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Separate crescent rolls into 8 triangles. Spread 1/2 teaspoon horseradish sauce or Ranch dressing on each crescent.Top each crescent with 1/2 slice provolone cheese and roast beef. Roll up crescents and place on baking sheet. Bake for approximately 15 minutes or until golden brown.
While crescents are baking, make Au Jus according to directions on packet. Serve with warm crescents.
These were a big hit! I omitted the Horseradish and/or Ranch- that would have been a deal breaker for the picky eaters of the group. I also always have other cheese on hand in case anyone has a disdain for provolone (David will only eat Swiss). I serve them on a platter along with smaller ramekins of au jus for everyone, because double dipping these treats is a must!
I usually buy fresh deli meat, but once used the Hillshire Farm prepackaged deal when the line was just too long too wait in. Not horrible, but the packaged meat released a lot of juice while cooking resulting in soggy bread. Not a deal breaker considering they’re made for dipping anyway, but I think I’ll still wait in line next time to avoid that.
Eventually, I’d like to throw a roast in the slow cooker to shred and use in this recipe, and serve with the fresh au jus sauce- but I tend to already be using that for a main course when we have guests, so it may take a while to get around to.
Wonderfully easy and quick to make, and delectable, the boys will be seeing these a lot!
Enjoy!
